One of the wonderful things about being a Clarion grad is one's fellow-authors - and their books. I got a chance to beta-read one my classmate Kater just finished writing.(http://redcrowkater.livejournal.com/26824.html)
It's amazing. You'll have to wait to read it, of course; I think she's planning to revise it (I personally loved it as is) and her agent hasn't sold it yet. And after she does, it'll still take a year or two to hit the shelves.
So I'm very lucky.
It's called Mulberry Wands, and has sinister owls and a man forced to obey them, an ethical mage whose mom lives in a trailer, a cat who hunts supernatural creatures, and tiny people who've never discovered feminism. It's set in an alternate Phoenix.
Look out for this book. Look out for this author.
