Shadowbridge and Swordspoint
Jan. 24th, 2008 08:22 pmWhat I'm reading these days is books by Our Amazing Clarion Instructors.
I read the Riverside series by Ellen Kushner - ending with The Death of the Kings by Ellen Kushner and Delia Sherman. I was pleased to see the credit to fellow-Clarionite Shweta Narayan at the end... And then just as I'd run out of things to read, Greg Frost's latest book, Shadowbridge arrived. I was thinking of saving it for a trip I'm making, but nah. It was just too attractive. A discussion on a private group made it even more enticing.
What all these books have in common, I think, is absolutely gorgeous world-building: Rich, tapestried settings, with dynamic characters who are completely of the place described.
I'm looking forward to more. I had an orgy of Clarion-instructor reading when I first got back. I had signed books by each of our instructors, and it was wonderful to sink into them. A small consolation for the end of Clarion.
