Butt me no butts
Aug. 31st, 2008 12:56 amI just read an article in the latest New Scientist that sounded like an April Fool's joke. It said:
"SOME unduly prim profanity filters are substituting "butt" for "ass" in texts, Dave Minter tells us, producing articles on the web about the "UN Buttembly" and the like."
(Nope, I wasn't reading an old issue by mistake, it was the most recent one. I checked.)
So of course I followed their example - I googled "clbuttic" and buttembly" and "indenbreasty." I got 4090, 928, and 1040 hits respectively. Most looked like serious articles that involved the words classic, assembly, and identity, though some actually were discussing precisely this problem. (An example is a site called Beyond Satire with The cbuttic mistake.)
A couple of sites with the most egregious examples are barossa-region.org - and bluegrassworld.com (which has a number of good articles on blue-grbutt).
