Fire on Angel Island
Oct. 13th, 2008 02:32 amAngel Island is in San Francisco Bay. It's a recreation area, these days, though it has some historic buildings. Campers. And a few hours ago, a pretty spectacular fire.
It was a guilt-free, worry-free fire, as fires go. The campers were evacuated. The fact that it's an island will contain the problem. We hope none of the historic buildings go, but on the whole, this was a fire people turned out to watch as a simply huge spectacle. At midnight, I went up to Tank Hill; there were several other people there. Twin Peaks was packed; I couldn't get parking.
My pictures are very ordinary compared to ones from people closer to the blaze, with better timing, more equipment, and greater skill. Still, FWIW, here are a couple. They were taken looking North from Tank Hill.

It's two hours later. The air smells of smoke.
