I've been hearing about Wiscon for a couple of years now. This year I decided to go. I'm not sure what to expect, but look forward to meeting a couple of my Clarion classmates and instructors, and some members of my writing group. The program looks so interesting that I'm sure I'm going to have some tough choices to make.

More later...

------

I caught an early flight, so didn't go to bed at all. Unfortunately, I had two relatively short flights, and short connecting time, so I didn't sleep much on the trip either.

Woke, blurry-eyed, to see the plane coming down over land checkered in green and brown, tufted with trees here and there, and a lake like a shining map in the midst of it. Wisconsin. We veered in over a golf course, so artificial amid the rectangles that it looked like plastic (but wasn't) to a bouncy landing. (Smallish plane).  The airport was clean and efficient.

The gift-stores were full of Holstein-themed pottery, and tiny-Tshirts that said "Cow-tipper in Training." I went out to wait for the hotel shuttle. The air smelled like dilute Harris-Ranch-on-a-bad-day.

As we got into town, the atmosphere changed a lot. Tree-line streets. Houses along the road with For Rent signs on them; we were passing a UW student area, and all of them left last week. The hotel has a good-sized room, and a desk with unfortunately sharp edges.

After a nap, I went to a reading at A Room of One's Own, the official Wiscon Bookshop. Will blog that separately.
