Horrified and ... Thanksgiving
Nov. 26th, 2008 11:21 pmI've been following the news out of Mumbai with horror: the ten co-ordinated attacks, the deaths, the hostages. The three top anti-terrorism police officers killed.
Even though I'm thousands of miles away, it hits me where I live. I consider Bombay one of "my" cities. I've stayed in those hotels.
It's been a surreal evening. We have a dinner tomorrow with a dozen guests, so we've been preparing food and decorating the house, and I've been sneaking away to check Google news. We don't currently have a functional TV. Just as well.
Random acts of violence. By tomorrow, Mumbai will have formulated a response. And it'll be a good one. When Mumbai was hit with 15 bomb blasts in 1993, it was determined to recover immediately, and it did. The best response to terror is to refuse to be terrified.
